Sonic Journey is a hands-on instrument sanctuary for iPhone and iPad: nineteen physically modeled instruments you strike, rub, and pluck with a touch, tuned across seventeen scale systems and fifteen frequency presets rooted in planetary and historical reference tones. Every tone is computed on your device in real time from a physical model of how the instrument makes sound—there are no prerecorded samples. Rub a crystal singing bowl and hear it bloom like a driven resonance; strike a gong and hear it darken as it decays; pluck a kalimba tine and hear its metal overtones. INSTRUMENTS Explore bowls and crystal, steel pans and drums, plucked strings, chimes and bells, big resonators, drones, and textures. The collection includes crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, handpan, RAV drum, tongue drum, frame drum, kalimba, crystal harp, monochord, koshi and bar chimes, tubular and standing bells, gong, chau gong, tuning fork, shruti box, ocean drum, and singing pyramid. TUNING Play twelve-tone scales and modes, or choose just-intonation and harmonic-series ratio tunings that remain microtonally exact to a selected root. Root the ensemble to a note, an exact frequency, or one of fifteen planetary and reference tones. PLAY YOUR WAY Tap a piece to sound it, drag to reposition it in the stereo field, or press and hold a bowl to rub it. Play from the on-screen keyboard, watch the live visual response, and shape your own arrangement. Multitouch lets independent fingers begin independent notes.
